Unitil's MA Default Rates Decline for Medium/Large Business Customers

01/26/2005

Hampton, NH - (January 26, 2005): Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) has filed its quarterly Default Service solicitation results and proposed rates for its medium and large business customers with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy. If approved, rates for medium and large business customers currently on Default Service will see bill decreases ranging from 12% to 17% for the three-month period March through May.

The rate decreases are driven by a decline in the market price for electric power during this period.

Default Service for residential and small business customers is procured on a semi-annual schedule and their Default Service rates are expected to change on June 1, 2005. Customers who have their own energy supplier are also not affected by this rate change.

Unitil Corporation at www.unitil.com is a public utility holding company with subsidiaries providing electric service in New Hampshire, electric and gas service in Massachusetts and energy services throughout the Northeast.
